TOUR PACKAGE 1 - FERRY / CASTLE TALK

Begin your journey across the storied waters of Clew Bay with the 10:35am Clare Island Ferry (O’Grady’s distinctive BLUE ferry) departing from Roonagh Pier. Upon arrival on Clare Island, you will be welcomed by Carl O’Grady—an island native and founder of Clare Island Whiskey—who will personally greet your group at the pier.

From there, enjoy a short and scenic one-minute walk to the historic stronghold of Grace O’Malley, the legendary Pirate Queen of Connacht. At the castle, Carl will guide you through the rich tapestry of Irish history, sharing tales of ancient myth, the Gaelic clan system, the arrival of the Normans, the challenges of the Tudor conquest, and the legacy of the Great Famine. You’ll also explore the enduring traditions of seafaring life and learn about the resilience and vibrancy of today’s island community.

This is an immersive and interactive experience. Guests are warmly encouraged to share their own ancestry and heritage, fostering a meaningful sense of connection across cultures and generations. The journey culminates with the compelling origin story of Clare Island Whiskey—a tribute to place, legacy, and the spirit of the sea.
