Take the 10.35am Clare Island Ferry (O’Grady’s BLUE ferry) from Roonagh Pier, across the majesty of Clew Bay, to Clare Island. Carl O’Grady, an island native and founder of Clare Island Whiskey, will meet the group at the pier on the island and bring them to Grace O’Malley’s castle, an easy 1-minute walk from the pier.

Carl will introduce the group to the story of the Pirate Queen, ancient Irish myth stories, the Irish clan system, the Normans, the Tudors, the Great Famine, local traditions of the sea and current life and times on Clare Island. This is an interactive experience where guests are invited to introduce their ancestry and discover how we are all connected. Guests will also discover the foundation story of Clare Island Whiskey.

Walk 700m around the blue flag beach to Clare Island Whiskey Cafe / Shop for a wholesome lunch with tea or coffee and enjoy the islands history brough to life on the walls and through videos. Customers also have the option to add in a Clare Island Sea Aged Single Malt Tasting Event and purchase our spirits and local memorabilia before taking the ferry back to the mainland. A lift can be arranged for those whom are not able to walk between the pier and the café.
